Eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly are two of the biggest piece of the weight loss puzzle. It certainly helps if you follow both of these plans consisently! But most of us spend hours per day sitting at a desk, and that can slow our metabolisms (and our weight loss results). So if you’re looking for ways to boost your daily calorie burn, you’re in luck. Check out the following tips, that almost anyone can squeeze into their daily routine.
Use a standing desk. You’ll burn more calories standing, rather than sitting, and it will also help to improve core strength and improve your posture.
Take the stairs. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, every chance you get. It’s a small change, but it adds up.
Go for a lunchtime walk. If you bring your lunch every day, you can avoid long waits at restaurants. Now you’re free to walk for 15-30 minutes, burning a significant number of calories.
Add 1,000 steps to your daily step count. Many of you have been reaching the 10,000-step challenge daily, which is a terrific goal. But you might be surprised at how easily you can cram an additional 1,000 steps into each day. Park just a bit farther from the store, walk around your work building on a break, or do a few laps around the soccer field while your kids practice. It adds up!
Bike to work. More cities are becoming bicyle-friendly, so check to see if a safe bike route is available to you. Aside from burning additional calories, you might also be surprised to find that biking to work is fun and easier than expected.
Fit in some calisthenics. Body weight moves like push-ups, squats, lunges, and jumping jacks can be performed just about anywhere. Five or ten minutes of calisthenics, whenever you can fit in a mini-workout, will boost your metabolism throughout the day.
Actual calorie burn always varies according to your body size and fitness level. But the bottom line is that moving, whenever you can, will always be helpful. So fit in a little movement whenever you can! And give us a call if you need to discuss your weight loss plan or dietary needs in more detail. We can make recommendations to help you achieve your goals.
