5 Superfoods To Include In Your Eating Plan

Most of us have tried a variety of different eating plans over the years. But you might have noticed that these plans often have a few things in common: Some of the same foods are recommended for weight loss or promoting better health, no matter the underlying behind the regimen.

Why is that? Essentially, some foods just pack a lot of nutrition while also being lower in calories overall. These five “superfoods” frequently make the list of recommendations for many weight loss or anti-aging plans.

Salmon. Salmon provides a terrific source of protein. But beyond that, the fish is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids that promote better blood lipid levels and lower blood pressure. In fact, the American Heart Association recommends that you eat fatty fish at least twice per week for improved heart health and prevention of disease. Omega-3 fatty acids can benefit brain health, as well, and potentially ward off some aging concerns such as Alzheimer’s.

Leafy greens. Non-starchy veggies like spinach, kale, and chard are ideal for low-carb diets. But in the case of leafy greens, they are also high in vitamins A, C, and K. Plus they pack plenty of iron.

Avocados. Avocados are rich in monounsaturated fats, the kind that are so good for your cardiovascular system. But they’re also rich in fiber, which promotes healthy digestion and help you feel full. And since they’re delicious, your weight loss plan feels much more satisfying when you include avocados.

Berries. Because they’re rich in antioxidants, berries can help fight age-related disease. Their natural sweetness makes them the perfect candidate for healthier desserts and smoothies, so you can enjoy your eating plan that much more.

Olive oil. Yet another source of “good” fats, olive oil can be used as a base for dressings and marinades. It’s still high in calories, so use it conservatively.

Incorporate the above foods into your weight loss plan, and you can ward off certain chronic health conditions while getting fit. For more tips on the right foods to include in your eating regimen, call us to schedule an appointment.
