Walking is one of the simplest forms of exercise there are, but at times it can get a little boring. If you’re using a walking routine to support your medical weight loss plan, you know that boredom can impact your progress. Every few weeks or so, change up something about your routine to keep it fresh and fulfilling, using ideas like…
Make it part of your self care routine. Combine your walk with another element of your self care routine. Take your morning herbal tea or coffee in a travel mug, and wake yourself up by pumping up your heart rate. Or, take this time to listen to soothing music.
Change up your walking soundtrack. If the same old tunes are getting old, venture into a new genre of music. Another option is to ditch the music altogether, and listen to an audio book (walking book clubs are even a thing now). Your daily walk might also be the perfect time to learn something new, via a foreign language app!
Get social. If getting together with friends is tough due to scheduling or social distancing practices, call one another on the phone instead. You can get in shape together while fitting in some much-needed social time.
Walk the dog. Taking your dog along with you can make walks more enjoyable. And if you don’t have a dog, maybe a neighbor will happily allow you to help with this chore. Local animal shelters might also be looking for volunteer dog walkers, to help their canine friends learn to socialize.
Switch up your routine. Choose a new route, walk at a different time of day, or drive to a nearby state park on weekends to enjoy a longer hike. Sometimes a simple change of scenery will do the trick, and enjoying a beautiful sunrise or sunset adds enjoyment, too.
Of course, exercise is just one part of your overall medical weight loss plan. If you need assistance with any part of your regimen, call us to schedule an appointment and we’ll be happy to help.
