If you have made the decision to overhaul your lifestyle, and make a commitment to weight loss or fitness, we congratulate you on taking the first very important step to a longer and healthier life. This is a decision that no one ever regrets! That’s true whether you’re on a weight loss program due to doctor’s orders, because you’re warding off serious health problems, or simply because you want to look and feel healthier. At the end of this journey you’re going to be so glad you did it.
The journey probably won’t be short. So in the meantime, there are two very important things you need to know.
First, keep in mind that any weight loss program will involve lowering your caloric intake in some way. This will in turn affect your metabolism, slowing it down somewhat. We do have ways of combating this problem, but a lowered metabolic rate is simply inevitable to some degree. But this won’t be a problem unless you go back to your old way of eating. If you do, you will regain the weight you’ve lost, and quickly.
So, the first thing we want you to know is that commitment is important. Yo-yo dieting can be dangerous, and will likely leave you feeling discouraged. That’s why we advocate for permanent lifestyle changes, especially regarding your relationship with food. With permanent change comes permanent results.
The second thing you need to know is that results will take some time to become noticeable. We would all love to change our eating and exercise habits, and quickly fit into a smaller clothing size… But in reality, visible changes take time. Rest assured that if you stick to your weight loss program, you will see results! But in the meantime, please don’t drive yourself crazy by weighing several times per day, or taking daily measurements, or constantly attempting those skinny jeans you have stashed in the back of your closet. They will fit soon! But in the meantime, you need positive encouragement and support, rather than discouragement.
On that note, please make an appointment to discuss your weight loss program with us. We offer consistent support and guidance, so that our patients can achieve safe and sustainable goals.
